St. Michael’s by the sea, an Episcopal Church located less than a mile from the coast of Carlsbad, is one of the many diverse projects that Level 3 has completed. The historic chapel, built in 1894, now serves as one of the four oldest buildings in the village. The old church still stands today and is used for services along with the new church. The new church, built in 1959, possesses a modern structural design for its age as it strays from the traditional cruciform shape.

The narthex, a key element in the church design, serves as the churches gathering space as well as the entrance and exit to the building. Level 3 Construction effectively demolished the existing unconditioned narthex building of 120 square feet and rebuilt a new, unconditioned 410 square foot narthex. In addition, work was also done on the bell tower that stands on the side of the church. Level 3 Construction was able to incorporate the modern look of the new church with the white frame style of the old church to produce the finished product.
